1. Our Commitment to Child Safety
At Ijen To Bromo Tour, the safety and well-being of all our guests, especially children, are of paramount importance. We are committed to creating a safe and secure environment for families to experience the natural wonders of Ijen Crater and Mount Bromo. These standards outline our policies and procedures designed to minimize risks and ensure a positive experience for our youngest adventurers and their families.
2. Age Restrictions and Health Requirements
To ensure the safety of all participants in our physically demanding tours, the following restrictions are strictly enforced:
-
Ijen Crater Hiking Tour: Due to the strenuous nature of the hike, high altitude, and potential exposure to sulphuric gases, children under the age of five (5) are strictly not permitted on the Ijen Crater hiking tour. This policy is non-negotiable and is in place for the child's safety.
-
General Health: All tour participants, including children, must be in good health and possess a reasonable level of physical fitness. Parents or legal guardians must disclose any pre-existing medical conditions (e.g., asthma, heart conditions, severe allergies) to us at the time of booking.
-
Health Certificate for Ijen: In line with local regulations, all participants for the Ijen Crater tour must provide a health certificate confirming they are free from asthma and heart problems. It is the guardian's responsibility to secure this for their child if they meet the minimum age requirement.
3. Parental/Guardian Supervision
Parents or legal guardians are responsible for the direct and constant supervision of their children throughout the entire duration of the tour. Our guides are responsible for the group's overall safety and route guidance, but they are not a substitute for parental supervision.
-
Children must remain with their guardians at all times, especially near viewpoints, crater rims, and on hiking trails.
-
Guardians are responsible for ensuring their children follow the safety instructions provided by the guide.
4. Vehicle and Transportation Safety
-
Vehicle Maintenance: All our private transport vehicles are regularly serviced and maintained to meet safety standards.
-
Safe Driving: Our drivers are experienced and instructed to adhere to safe driving practices, including observing speed limits and traffic regulations.
-
Seatbelts: All vehicles are equipped with seatbelts. We require all guests, including children, to wear them at all times when the vehicle is in motion. We do not provide specialized child car seats; families requiring them should make their own arrangements.
5. Activity-Specific Safety Guidelines
A. Mount Bromo Tour:
-
Cold Weather: Temperatures at Mount Bromo can be extremely cold, especially before sunrise. Guardians must ensure children are dressed in appropriate warm clothing, including layers, jackets, hats, and gloves.
-
Volcanic Dust & Sand: We recommend that all guests, especially children, use face masks to protect against volcanic ash and dust, particularly in the "Sea of Sand" area.
-
Terrain: Guardians must ensure children walk carefully on uneven terrain and stay on marked paths. Do not allow children to run near the crater rim.
B. Ijen Crater Tour (For eligible children):
-
Gas Masks: The use of professional-grade gas masks is mandatory for all participants during the descent into the crater area. Our guides will provide these and ensure they are fitted correctly. Guardians must ensure their children wear the mask as instructed.
-
Night Hiking: The trek is often conducted in the dark. All participants will be provided with headlamps. Guardians must hold their child's hand or keep them in close proximity during the hike.
-
Guidance: Always follow the guide. Do not take alternative paths or separate from the group.
6. Emergency Preparedness
-
First Aid: Our guides are trained in basic first aid, and all vehicles are equipped with a standard first-aid kit for minor injuries.
-
Communication: Our guides carry mobile phones or other communication devices to contact our support team or local emergency services if required.
-
Emergency Plan: In the event of an emergency, our guide will take charge of the situation. Parents/guardians are requested to follow their instructions calmly and promptly.
7. Pre-Trip Communication & Insurance
-
Information: We are committed to providing families with clear and comprehensive information before the trip, including packing lists, physical requirements, and potential risks.
-
Travel Insurance: As stated in our Terms and Conditions, Ijen To Bromo Tour does not provide travel insurance. We strongly recommend that all families purchase comprehensive travel insurance that covers medical emergencies, evacuation, trip cancellation, and all activities included in the tour for every member of their family, including children.
8. Acknowledgement of Risk
By booking a tour with us for their family, parents and legal guardians acknowledge that adventure travel involves inherent risks. They confirm that they have read and understood these Child Safety Standards and accept their responsibility for the direct supervision and care of their children.
